A peptic ulcer is nothing but a disease which leads to severe pain in the stomach lining or initial part of the small intestine named as the duodenum. There are many causes which lead to an ulcer. In general, ulcer mainly causes due to the imbalance that takes place between digestive fluids present in the stomach and duodenum. In most of the cases, ulcer causes due to helicobacter pylori bacteria.
A peptic ulcer can be detected by following symptoms.
Sometimes there may be severe symptoms like,
Mostly, ulcer heals on its own without any medication but you should never ignore if you find its symptoms. If you ignore symptoms of ulcer, it may lead to severe health problems which include,
If you consult a doctor stating the above symptoms that you are experiencing from few days, the doctor will definitely suspect the disease to be ulcer just by discussing the symptoms with you. In order to confirm whether you are affected or not, the doctor may suggest you for undergoing one or two of several tests as in the process of diagnosis. Initially, the doctor may advise you to take acid-block medication for a short period in order to check whether there is any improvement in symptoms or not.
Even if the problem persists, the doctor will suggest you for an endoscopy test. This particular test helps to detect the abnormalities of the stomach. It is mostly suggested when you are suffering from severe symptoms of peptic ulcer.
A peptic ulcer is not an ordinary disease to ignore. If it is not treated properly, it will lead to other serious health issues. So it is compulsory to take a treatment as soon as you detect the disease. There are many ways to treat ulcer which include making little changes in regular lifestyle, taking proper medication and undergoing a surgery (if symptoms are severe).
As soon as you found the symptoms of an ulcer, make sure to eliminate food substances which can worse the ulcer. If you are a smoker/drinker, then stop it immediately to avoid further consequences. Sometimes ulcer may cause due to more usage of NSAIDs. If this is the reason behind your ulcer attack, then stop taking NSAIDs.
Sometimes we will be far behind to treat ulcer by making lifestyle changes as it crossed the initial stage. At that time, peptic ulcer can be treated by taking proper medication like antibiotics and PPI (proton pump inhibitors).
Other than these, peptic ulcer can be treated by upper endoscopy or surgery based on the severity of the disease.
