What are Gallstones?

Gallstones are hard deposits formed n gallbladder which is a small organ that store bile. Gallstones are the solid clumps formed by the combination cholesterol crystals, salt etc. Gallstones vary in size ranging from minimal grain size to large apricot size.

The components present in the bile will get crystallize or harden in gallbladder leading to gallstones. In most of the cases, gallstones are made up of cholesterol and in some cases, gallstones are made up of bilirubin or salt. This type of gallstones is termed as pigment stones.

Symptoms of Gallstones

Mostly you will not be able to experience any symptoms if you have gallstones. Moreover, most of the people having gallstones will not face any pain. These gallstones can be detected through x-rays or by doing abdomen surgery. Sometimes, people may experience some gallstone symptoms. Extreme pain in the right upper part of the abdomen is the common symptom seen in people suffering from gallstones. This pain often spreads to the back or shoulder part of the body. Diagnosis of Gallstones

Gallstones can be detected by a concerned doctor through physical examination of skin and eyes whether they changed in color. Other than physical examination, there are some specific tests which will help to diagnose gallstones like ultrasound, blood test, CT scan of the abdomen, gallbladder radionuclide scan.

Treatment for Gallstones

There are several treatment options available for Gallstones which removes stones and improves the condition. Surgery and certain medications are suggestible to treat gallstones. Maximum surgery is the first preferred treatment option if you want to get cured of gallstones problem as medication takes a long time to cure especially in the case of gallstones formed by cholesterol. Even after surgery and cure of gallstones, proper care to be taken along with adoption of some lifestyle changes to prevent further.
